Senior Pastor – Reverend David Wofford
David Wofford was appointed to Young Harris UMC in June 2013 from St. James UMC in Atlanta. He is orginally from Canton and attended the Georgia Institute of Technology, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering.
He and his wife, Sarah, met while they were both attending Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, KY. They have a spunky four year old daughter, Ellie, and one year old Hannah.
Youth Director – Blake Tabb
Blake is father to two spunky children and married to Sarah Tabb. He spends most of his time at the Athens YMCA, when he’s not working on lesson plans for UMYF or spending time with his family .
Children’s Director – Nami Deal
Naomi has recently taken over the children’s ministry at Young Harris. Among other attributes, she is bilingual and excited to take on the challenge of teaching God’s love to our toddlers and elementary aged children. She is married with a young daughter, and grew up the daughter of a preacher!
Minister of Music -Jennifer LaRue
Jenn LaRue is a PhD student in ethnomusicology at UGA, with a passion for global music and worship. When she is not researching Kenyan music, she is working with various organizations to help provide primary school education for vulnerable children in Kenya.
She grew up in Canada, and is a staunch supporter of Toronto hockey and baseball. Jenn is married to Don, and they have two boys: Philip and Josiah.
Accompanist – Daniel Self
Daniel is a lifelong musician performing extensively on both flute and piano for over 20 years. He works for the Athens Clarke County Leisure Services Department when he is not performing.
In addition to piano accompaniments, Daniel doubles on the organ when needed and assists with the Young Harris handbell choir and church orchestra.
Financial Administrator – Lacey Shubert
Lacey has been with Young Harris since 2012. Lacey and her husband, Derek, live in Commerce with their son Joseph, who is 10 years old. She also works at Commerce Primary School as a Paraprofessional.
Communications Administrator – Patti Simpson
Patti has lived in GA for 14 years, and is originally from Upstate NY. Patti and her husband, Steve, now call Winder their home. Patti is a devoted believer and disciple of Jesus Christ and it shows in her passion for her care and compassion for the ministry of Young Harris!
