After taking two weeks to regroup at Young Harris United Methodist Church, Oconee Street UMC has moved its worship services, Bible studies and other meetings to the chapel at Tuckston UMC, 4175 Lexington Road in Athens.

Fire tore through the in-town church on April 15, destroying the sanctuary and leaving smoke and water damage to the adjoining education building.

The congregation met at Young Harris for two weeks, but decided to use the 116-year-old chapel on the Tuckston campus, which the Tuckston congregation doesn’t use on Sunday mornings.

Pastor Lisa Caine thanked the Young Harris congregation for their support: “We were homeless—strangers and you welcomed us; you gave us a place to worship, rest, and regroup as we came to terms with our new reality. … We are thankful for the friendships we have made at Young Harris and always be grateful for your love and care in our greatest time of need.”
