When school lets out for the summer, many kids who benefit from the federal school lunch program are left without a healthy mid-day meal. In April and May, the children of Young Harris (ages 3-12) will be collecting food items for ACTION, Inc.’s Smart Lunch, Smart Kid program, which provides healthy sack lunches to make sure that kids get the nutrition they need.
Along the way, we will talk about the blessings God gave us and Jesus’ instructions to help the poor. This is a great opportunity for the youngest ones to learn about missions and how we are called to help those in need around us.
Here’s the schedule of items that the kids will collect:
April 14 – Ziploc sandwich bags
April 21 – Individually packaged salty snacks
April 28 – Juice boxes and/or bottled water
May 5 – Books (age-appropriate for preschool through 12th grade)
May 12 – Individually packaged fruit snacks (dried fruit, rollups, applesauce, etc.)
May 19 – Peanut butter and jelly (in non-breakable jars)
