This month’s Greetings includes all the happenings of August, like …
Older Gems: On Tuesday, Aug. 21, the Older Gems will meet at 6:30 p.m. for ice cream and social time in the FLC. Volunteers are needed to provide homemade ice cream.
Revitalization workshop: Final details are being made for the Lay Revitalization Workshop to be held at Young Harris Memorial UMC the evening of Aug. 17 (7-8:30) and throughout the day Aug. 18 (9am-2:30 pm). This program brings together a handful of lay leaders from across the conference to help congregations target specific areas where they would like to grow. For us, we will explore Spir-itual Growth on Friday, then Finance, Evangelism and Image on Saturday, choosing some specific goals and setting action plans to get there. The workshop is for everyone-whether you have been a member for decades or just come when your work schedule allows. We need ideas from every corner of the congregation. Please come out.
Chase Street School Supplies: Young Harris is once again collecting school supplies for Chase Street Elementary School as one of the school’s Partners in Education. Some children do not live in situations that provide even the basics. If you would like to make a donation, there will be a box available in the fellowship hall. If you wish to make a monetary contribution, please mark your donation for “Chase St. School” and back-packs and supplies will be purchased with the contributions. Deadline to donate is Sunday, August 19, 2012.
Grandview Services : The administrators at Grandview have asked that all outside groups please bring their own supplies such as: drinks, food, napkins, plates, and gloves. They can no longer furnish those items for outside groups who come in to do programs or provide services for the residents. They are, as always, very appreciative of the worship service and birthday party that Young Harris hosts once per month.
United Methodist Women: Circles meet on Tuesday, Aug. 14. Circle 1, 10:00 a.m., at Em’s, Martha Rayburn is hostess. Circle 2 meets in FLC dining room at 2 p.m., Patsy Orr is hostess. Circle 3 meets at 7 p.m. with Annelle Nelms. Circle 2 will host Grandview birthday party Aug. 28, at 3 p.m.
Please mark your calendar for TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 4 (yearbook has wrong date) at 11 a.m., in the FLC dining room for our general meeting. Jackie Lunsford, Social Action Coordinator, has invited Ira Edwards, Clarke County Sheriff, as our guest speaker. This should be a very interesting program. Also, we will elect officers for 2013. Lunch is covered dish after the meeting. Sara Phillips is co-hostess.
Updating Information: We want to make sure that all of the information in our ACS people suite is up to date. This keeps track of address, email and phone numbers. Please call the church office to make sure that we have all of your correct information. Thank you in ad-vance for your help with this, we greatly appreciate it.
Church Website : We are currently updating and working on our church website. Please go to this website to see all of the things that are happening around Young Harris Church. You can see copies of the greetings, bulletin announcements, upcoming events and much more at www.yhmumc.wordpress.com.
Sympathy: Our deepest Christian sympathy goes out to the families of John Spratlin and Maggie Brown during the time of their loss. Also, to Doris McClung and family during the loss of her sister Mildred Dallara.
